Poole Harbour Bridge

Poole Harbour Bridge, Dorset: 2002

The concept of the bridge was to provide a sheltered walkway with viewing places in order to encourage people to want to cross the harbour.

The two central spans were to be openable to allow tall masted yachts to pass through and the mechanism for this took the form of a 'bascule', with weights within the high sail-like form dropping to move the roadways upward.
