The centre was designed to help nurture the creative talents of the young
and those who, for whatever reason, might otherwise have missed the
normal opportunities for further education in the arts.
The building was conceived as a series of counterpoints eg. public/private;
rational/intuitive; physical/cerebral etc, which were expressed and then
subsumed within a single envelope which itself expressed further dualities
eg. solid/void; back/front; organic/inorganic, etc.
