The masterplan for Abu Dhabi covered an area 2.25km long and 0.5km
wide. Based on a regular pattern of city blocks, each 120m2, the project
sought to overcome the historic problem of congested city streets by
separating through traffic from local traffic by raising the roadway in the
manner of a viaduct.
